Inspiratory muscle strength training (IMST) is a technique originally developed to help ventilator-dependent individuals to breath on their own. IMST is now used in athletes to enhance performance and is also being investigated for use in patients with neuromuscular disorders, respiratory diseases, and cardiovascular detriments. We investigated the effects of IMST in healthy young adults and current work is aiming to use this intervention as a novel treatment for sleep apnea.
